When Zulma was born, her mom had no idea what her dad was about to do. While she rested and slept after the birth, her father was handed the paperwork for the baby’s name. Without asking anyone, he decided to name his new daughter after—not one—but two of his old girlfriends: Zulma and Evette. By the time her mother found out, it was too late. The name was already on the birth certificate! Needless to say, her mom wasn’t thrilled, but the unusual name stuck, and it’s been turning heads ever since.

To make her name even more unique the “z” is actually pronounced as an “s”.

Thus, her name is pronounced “Sulma”!

Zulma grew up in New York City surrounded by Puerto Rican culture, family, and the energy of a big city. After giving birth to two daughters, however, she was ready for a change. Seeking a slower pace and a safer, more healthy environment she packed up her life and moved to Southwest Florida.

Although life in Florida brought on some new challenges, Zulma was determined to keep moving forward. Even though she had been out of school for years, she enrolled in evening classes to earn her high school diploma. She balanced work, school, and motherhood, proving to her kids that determination pays off.

Zulma has worked in the food and restaurant industry for more than twenty years and worked her way up through the ranks to become the manager of several different establishments

Today, she’s not just a proud mom but also a grandmother—and it might surprise you to learn that her oldest grandchild is already 19 years old!

One special interest and talent of Zulma is cooking. She LOVES to cook just about anything—Chinese stir fry, Haitian specialties, or Puerto Rican comfort food—and she does it all with joy. For Zulma, cooking isn’t just about feeding people; it’s about bringing family together, creating memories, and sharing a little bit of love with every meal. Riding with her was like meeting someone whose life is as colorful and flavorful as the dishes she makes.

Zulma has always felt that God has blessed her with with a special spiritual gifting. She is currently in the process of writing a book about her life and experiences to encourage others.
