Recently I met a great Uber passenger named Xavier. While his name isn’t the most unusual, the story behind it is pretty cool. When he was born, his parents were all set to name him Blaine. But being a huge fan of the Marvel X-Men movies, his father changed his mind at the last second. Pointing to the name “Xavier” in an X-Men magazine, he told his wife, “This is what we’re going to name our son!”—a tribute to Professor Xavier, one of his favorite characters.

Xavier grew up in New York City and was raised in the Bronx. Recently, he moved down to Fort Myers, Florida, where he met his wife, Joanna, through an online dating service. Together, they’ve started a new chapter of life in the Sunshine State.

One of the most amazing things about Xavier is that he’s a professional skateboarder. He has competed in many competitions and has the medals to prove it. He laughed when he told me he’s broken nearly every bone in his body—except his spine—while chasing his dream. I jokingly suggested he might want to look into a safer career, but Xavier is determined. He’s aiming to become a skateboard champion this year, and with his drive, I think he just might do it.

What impressed me even more is that Xavier isn’t just focused on skateboarding. He’s currently studying for a degree in the medical field, and he’s also a talented photographer. It was a real pleasure meeting him, and I’d like to give a warm welcome to Xavier on the Uber Namez website.
