Takayla… From Sketches to Scrubs!

Recently I picked up a friendly, outgoing passenger named Takayla. (Tah-KAY-la) Her creative mother had wanted a name similar to Makayla or Kayla, but with its own twist. Takayla is definitely a unique derivative and a name that sets her apart!

Takayla was born in Atlanta, Georgia, but moved with her family to Punta Gorda about seven years ago. While attending high school, she developed a passion for drawing and art. Over time, with both practice and patience, she developed these creative skills and excelled. She actually placed second in a state art competition during that time! Besides art, Takayla also loves animals and enjoys spending as much time as possible with the family dog.

After graduating from high school, Takayla felt drawn toward helping people. She currently attends Florida Southwestern State College and is enrolled in a nursing apprenticeship program. Here, she has the unique opportunity to work alongside of nurses and doctors at Lee Memorial Hospital, and learn how to care for patients. Eventually she would like to specialize in wound care.

Takayla lives by a simple motto: live and let live. She believes everyone has their own story, their own path, and their own strengths and weaknesses. She has an easy going personality and feels that she can get along with most anyone. I certainly enjoyed my short time chatting with Takayla and hearing her story!

The name Kayla was derived from the Hebrew name, Micaela and the English name Michael.

In Hebrew, the name signifies, “Who is like God?” While in English, the name means “beloved”. What an appropriate name for someone like Takayla with a heart to help others in the healing process!
