Melina Joy, or MJ as most people call her, is a bright and creative young woman born and raised in Fort Myers, Florida. She went to North Fort Myers High School, where she spent most of her time in the art room. Painting with acrylics is her favorite thing to do—she loves how the colors blend and pop on the canvas. One day, she might even turn her love for painting into a career. For now, she’s pouring her creative energy into cosmetology school, learning how to style hair, do makeup, and help people feel beautiful.

I’ve picked MJ up from her cosmetology school a few times now, but it wasn’t until today that I learned her full name—Melina. It surprised me, because I’d never heard that name before. She laughed and told me there are actually two other Malinas in her class! (Note the different spelling of the names) Her mom found the name in a baby book, but changed the spelling from “Malina” to “Melina” to give it her own twist. The name means “honey,” which MJ thought was pretty cool—especially because honeybees are her favorite insect.

She told me she admires honeybees because they’re hardworking and organized, always working together to build something that matters. That’s exactly how MJ wants to live her life—creating something beautiful, not just through her art, but through how she treats others. Whether she’s painting, doing someone’s hair, or just being a good friend, she hopes to make the world a little sweeter—just like a honeybee.

It’s been a real pleasure getting to know MJ. She’s the kind of person who brings color to the world in more ways than one. I’m happy to add her story to the Uber Namez list—and who knows, maybe one day I’ll see her name in lights at an art show or on the door of her very own salon.

Please welcome Melina to Ubernamez!
