Recently I had the pleasure of meeting a young man named Jacinto (Ha-seen-toe) while driving for Uber. I had taken a long trip out to Immokalee, Florida, and wasn’t expecting to get a ride request back toward Fort Myers. To my surprise, one popped up from the Immokalee casino. When I arrived, Jacinto came out with a bright smile and an upbeat attitude that immediately stood out. He works at the casino as a customer service agent and clearly enjoys meeting new people.

Jacinto told me some interesting facts regarding his name. Jacinto is the Portuguese word for hyacinth, a fragrant purple flower known for its sweet scent. His name is also sometimes connected to Saint Hyacinth, a Polish saint remembered for his courage and compassion. In a way, his cheerful spirit and positive attitude reminded me of a pleasant fragrance—something you notice right away and that leaves a good impression.
During our lengthy trip we began talking about life and the importance of character—how it shapes our choices, our goals, and even our success. I shared a little about my own life, and Jacinto opened up about his journey as well. He grew up in Texas and faced plenty of challenges in high school, but he kept pushing forward. Less than a year ago, he moved to Fort Myers to help his mother through some difficulties of her own.
Jacinto started his life in Florida doing landscaping work, but soon found a better opportunity at the casino. He told me he enjoys the job because he gets to interact with all kinds of people. Even though he’s only nineteen, he carries himself with maturity. He’s been through a few disappointing relationships where people took advantage of him, but instead of becoming bitter, he chooses to learn from those experiences. He sees them as lessons in humility, growth and character.
I was also impressed with Jacinto’s faith and his desire to model his life after the teachings of Jesus. One of his favorite scriptures is James 1:12, which talks about standing strong through trials. With his positive attitude, bright personality, and desire to build strong character, it’s hard not to believe he has a bright future ahead. Meeting Jacinto wasn’t just another Uber ride—it was a reminder that even a simple trip can bring meaningful conversations and inspiring people across our path.
Please welcome Jacinto to the Ubernamez website!
