Guerreline… Gentle Warrior

Sometimes you meet someone and instantly feel like you’ve discovered a hidden treasure. That’s how I felt when I met a woman named Guerreline. At first, she was hesitant to let me share her story on the Uber Namez website, but as we talked, we found ourselves deep in meaningful conversation. By the end of the ride, I realized her life journey was too powerful not to tell and she cheerfully accepted my invitation to the website.

Guerreline was born in Haiti as the fifth of ten children. From a very young age—just five years old—she dreamed of becoming a nurse. She was a brave soul, becoming the first person in her family to come to the United States. She attended Barry University, hoping to turn her childhood dream into reality. However, life brought challenges. After failing her nursing exam on her first attempt and feeling overwhelmed by raising children on her own, she had to put that dream on hold.

To support her family, Guerreline began driving for Uber. It wasn’t the career she had imagined, but it allowed her to pay the bills, and she drove for nearly six years. During the COVID pandemic, something important happened. It was a subtle, yet life changing event. Her young son cried and begged her not to drive because he was afraid she might get sick. She felt compelled, however, to earn so she turned her driver app on. After waiting a long time without receiving any ride requests, she felt it might be a sign from God. Maybe God was using the concern of her son to challenge her faith. She turned off the app, and went home.

Soon after, Uber introduced her to another opportunity—DoorDash—which didn’t require passengers. Guerreline signed up and began delivering food, often with help from her young children, who assisted by spotting street signs and navigating neighborhoods. During quiet moments between deliveries, she studied for her nursing exam. Little by little, her knowledge and confidence grew. She decided to take the nursing exam again and this time she passed. At last, she had achieved her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse!

Today, Guerreline is a hard working nurse and the proud mother of three children: an older son who is 33, a second son who plays football at Mariner High School, and a daughter preparing to join the National Guard. As a single mother, she considers raising strong, successful children her greatest accomplishment. She is grateful for God’s presence and care.

Her name, Guerreline, fits her perfectly—Guer meaning strength or warrior, and line meaning gentleness and kindness. Guerreline truly is a gentle warrior, and it was an honor to meet her and share her inspiring story.

Please welcome Guerreline to the Ubernamez family and share her story with anyone who might be encouraged through her testimony and example!
