D’nagya… not your “average” young woman!

I recently met a young woman with one of the most unique names I’ve ever heard: D’nagya. (Pronounced “Duh-naw-gee-a”) Her mother created the name, experimenting with various letter combinations, so her daughter would have something truly one of a kind—even though her own name is simply Amy. Because D’nagya’s name is so uncommon, her friends and coworkers call her Naj or Naji. When she described herself as “just average,” it was clear that she didn’t fully see how special she really is. From the moment we started talking, her kindness and calm spirit stood out.

D’nagya grew up in Fort Myers and attended South Fort Myers High School. She was very focused on academics and earned a number of college credits in a dual enrollment program. After high school she completed her college coursework and earned a degree in criminal justice. After working for a short time as a parole officer, she realized that path wasn’t the right fit for her. Instead of working a job that she didn’t really enjoy she made a brave choice to start again. She returned to school and became an esthetician (skincare specialist), turning that new skill into her own business where she now helps others feel confident and cared for. She also works at David’s Bridal, where she enjoys helping brides prepare for one of the most important days of their lives.
She doesn’t have any specific hobbies outside of work but describes herself as an “old soul” who enjoys relaxing at home. D’nagya does like spending time with her young son and will often sit and watch him while he focuses on an exciting video game.
D’nagya has one meaningful tattoo that reads, “You never know how strong you are until strong is the only choice you have.” Those words reflect her life perfectly, even if she doesn’t always realize it. They remind her—and others—that strength often shows up quietly, during everyday challenges.
One of the most admirable parts of D’nagya’s story is her determination to make the best of every situation. When she was younger and still in school she faced big decisions, responsibilities and challenges. She chose a path that showed courage, love, and hope for the future. Today, she continues to move forward with grace, working hard, caring for others, and building a life she can be proud of. Meeting her was a reminder that everyone has a story—and sometimes the strongest people are the ones who don’t boast about it at all.
Please welcome D’nagya to the Ubernamez family!
