Bunzy… A Kind Soul!

At a recent yard sale, I met a woman with one of the most unique names I’ve ever heard—Bunzy. Before I even knew her name, she caught my eye because I noticed a large patch and medical tubes connected to the back of her head. She explained that during a frightening altercation at a restaurant, she was pushed to the ground and struck her head on the cement. The injury left her with serious damage to her neck and spinal cord. Though hospitalized with terrible injuries, Bunzy survived and continues to recover today with great strength and determination.

Bunzy grew up in Illinois as the youngest of fourteen children, making her part of a very large family. It was a challenge to even recall all of their names. She told me she always thought her unusual name had Native American roots, but my research showed it may actually be Irish, meaning “kind.” That meaning fits her perfectly, because kindness describes Bunzy well. She is a gentle, giving person who deeply cares about both people and animals.
In fact, Bunzy is a true animal lover. She has a service dog and more cats than most people could imagine, especially since she feeds every stray cat that wanders into her neighborhood. During Hurricane Ian, when her home was flooded, more than twenty cats piled inside for safety, climbing onto tables and countertops to stay above the water. She also feeds birds daily, so many that hundreds of them flock to her porch, unafraid to walk right beside her. Meeting Bunzy was a special experience for me. Her name is unique, her story is unforgettable, and her kindness shines through in everything she does.

Please welcome Bunzy to the Ubernamez family!
