Bishal and Poonam both grew up in the mountain country of Nepal. Twenty years ago, after Bishal trained as a physician and married Poonam, they moved to the United States seeking greater opportunities and adventures. They first landed in Cincinnati, Ohio but they didn’t stay still for long—after a few moves and new work opportunities, they eventually found their way to sunny Southwest Florida. They have lived in the area for ten years.

Bishal, whose name amusingly means “large” or “huge,” is not actually very big at all. He’s healthy, energetic, and stands around five-foot-eight. What is huge, however, is his dedication. He’s a doctor who specializes in kidneys, working hard every day to keep people healthy and fit. He’s organized, diligent, and the kind of person who is always writing a list, solving a problem or making a plan.
Poonam—whose name means “full moon”—brings a gentle, glowing brightness wherever she goes. She stayed home when her two sons were small, filling their days with love and laughter, before sending them to be educated in the local schools. Once the boys were older, she stepped fearlessly into the world as an entrepreneur, creating an business that sells jewelry, clothing, and shoes from India. I was attracted to her warm personality and beautiful merchandise when I met her and Bishal at a community yard sale. Check out her online store by visiting Naaz Luxury Boutique.

Together, Poonam and Bishal make an amazing team. They balance each other like sunlight and a full moon—steady, bright, and full of warmth. Their journey from Nepal to Florida is a story of courage, curiosity, and hard work. Most of all, it’s a reminder that families can shine in new places when they bring their hearts, culture, and kindness with them wherever they go.
Note:
Apparently the names Bishal and Poonam are more common in Nepal, but for me they are as interesting, noteworthy and unique as their live’s journey from Nepal to Florida! Please welcome them to Ubernamez!
