Arelis… Courageously Facing Life’s Challenges

Recently I had the pleasure of meeting Arelis during an Uber ride, and what a truly inspiring woman she is! Arelis was born and raised in New Jersey, where her parents—who came from Cuba—worked hard to build a better life. They became proud U.S. citizens and taught Arelis the value of determination and staying positive through life’s challenges. Even though she still has close ties to New Jersey, Arelis and her husband now enjoy splitting their time between there and sunny Southwest Florida.

Arelis has faced some tough challenges in life. When she was in her twenties, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS), a disease that can affect the brain and nervous system. But instead of giving up or feeling sorry for herself, Arelis chose to fight with courage and strength. With the support of her loving husband—whom she’s been married to for over 24 years—they’ve faced every obstacle together. Arelis had a career in accounting and now stays active and healthy by following a special MS workout routine, showing that strength doesn’t just come from muscles—it comes from attitude, too!

What made this Uber ride so special wasn’t just her story, but the way she shared it—with a smile, laughter, and a kind heart. Arelis has a joyful outlook that makes people feel comfortable and uplifted just by being around her. It’s easy to see that she enjoys life, no matter the circumstances. She talks about her past with gratitude, her present with courage, and her future with hope. Her positive energy made the whole ride feel like a conversation with an old friend.

The name Arelis means “lion of God” or “light of God,” and it fits her perfectly. Like a lion, she carries strength and courage, and like light, she brightens every space she enters. She’s a reminder that even when life brings storms, it’s possible to face them boldly and shine through. So here’s a warm welcome to Arelis—an amazing person whose strength, kindness, and radiant spirit will never be forgotten!
